Merry Shelley, Happy Holden: Christmas Morning

Parents still asleep in their beds

kids waiting, hands on their heads.

They know someone has been

(they heard him giggle with glee)

and look! He’s left a sock on the chair.

It’s all bumpy and lumpy over there.

It’s full of little gifts and toys

for the best-behaved girls and boys.

Dad’s stood in the door, “Come on.

Get a move on! Someone’s been in the night.”

Who could it be? It was Santa, alright?

Merry Shelley, Happy Holden: Christmas Eve Eve

The last normal day before Christmas and we are spending it shopping!

The sales have started already, people are sweating under their coats and the queues are a mile long just to buy some cereal!

How are you spending Christmas Eve Eve? Are you guys finally in the festive mood or is it just another weekday. Tell us in the comments.

Merry Shelley, Happy Holden: A Christmas poem

The Wonder of Winter

Snowflakes falling on the ground,

Snowballs flying round and round,

Looking at the leafless trees,

Flowers drooping on their knees,

Ice has frozen on the ground,

Winter’s quiet, not a sound,

Snowman, snowman in my sight,

More snow’s fallen in the night,

Woolly hats and gloves and scarves,

Throwing snowballs makes us laugh,

Coat’s and boots and wellies too,

Got out my snow fort! Shoo! Shoo! Shoo!

Skiing, sledging that’s for me,

And a cup of Cocoa with my tea.

Merry Shelley, Happy Holden: Wrapping presents

Hello again readers!!

Well it’s now December 20th, which means the big day is only 5 days away!!

So if you haven’t already, it’s probably time to start wrapping those presents!!

I always love wrapping presents, using nice paper, bows and ribbon etc… to make the wrapping look just as exciting to open as the present itself. Not everyone finds it as easy though.

So, for those of you who wake up in a cold sweat dreading the wrapping of presents here is a wiki with some useful tips:

Merry Shelley, Happy Holden: Day 4

So, here we are at day four of our blogmas countdown, and there is now officially less than 10 days to go until Christmas!! *excited squeal*

So, in true festive fashion, I thought I would take a look at some of the Christmas traditions that I go through with my family every year.

Like a lot of families, we love our decorations. Come the first weekend of December the house will always be plastered with them, head to toe! Myself and my siblings always get control of the Christmas tree, and decorate it however we like, and within a day, our house goes from a home to Santa’s grotto!

We will often (loudly) sing Christmas songs all over the house, and generally be festive all the way up until the big day. In our household, it has sort of become a tradition that every Christmas eve, we will get a KFC takeaway and eat together as a family.

No matter how old we get, my siblings and I still love Christmas, we even get stockings at the end of our bed every year on Christmas day!!

By the time Christmas dinner has been devoured, and all the presents unwrapped, we are ready to do it all over again!!

What about your families? are there any particular traditions that you follow at this time of year? Let us know below!

Be sure to tune in tomorrow for day 5 of our blogmas countdown… Christmas is getting ever closer!

Merry Shelley, Happy Holden Day 3: Bookish Gifts

Hello – Happy Holden here reporting for Day 3 of our Blogmas tour!

I went to a Christmas work’s party on Sunday night (which you can read all about here) and received the COOLEST Secret Santa present from one of my colleagues.

It’s no secret to them that I read and write books, but never did I expect to receive such a bookish gift from a non-writer.

I found out you can buy it on Amazon, so here’s the link if you fancy grabbing one for a fellow bookish friend.

I also found this really cute LETTERS TO MY FUTURE SELF that’s only about £5. Might have to get one of those next year… Here’s the link.
